Estimation of the risk of fracture during forging based on laboratory test and QForm simulation

The article presents numerical analysis and industrial verification of impression die forging processes of complex-shaped components made of hard-to-deformation materials. A specific state of stress and strain, non-uniformity of strain rate and temperature, resulting in a high vulnerability of fracture initiation during deformation. The risk of cracking in the warm forging process of surgical forceps made of martensitic stainless steel and a motorbike component made of magnesium alloy was estimated. The paper presents the methodology based on laboratory compression tests performed by using the laboratory rig with the 5 MN hydraulic press and numerical simulation by finite element method in the QForm software while implementing of the fracture criteria with elaborated parameters.

Computer modeling and experimental study of the ingots' piercing in the two-high helical rolling mill

Experimental research works of piercing processes of AD-31 aluminum alloy ingots in the two-high helical rolling mill by a continuous mandrel and mandrel with a recess at the end face plane. The ingot production process is simulated using the ProCAST software and the piercing – the QForm software. The difference in dimensions of liners after trial piercing operations from dimensions of liners according to the computer simulation results does not exceed 15 %. The obtained results are allowed to estimate the impact of piercing mandrel's shape on the dimensions of the produced liners and demonstrate the efficiency of finite element analysis software for investigation in the field of seamless pipes production by helical rolling.

In this paper the combined process of nosing and extrusion in manufacturing of parts resembling a rod with a spherical flange is offered. Application of parts of this type and the existing problems of their production are defined On the basis of the finite element method in the software package QForm V8 computer simulation of the combined operation is performed and the force modes of the process are analyzed. Results of a research of influence of geometrical factor expressed in matrix sizes and values of coefficient of friction on the force modes of the process are given. Using of QForm software on the PTC KAMAZ forging plant

The peculiarities of preproduction engineering using the QForm V8 software for the finite element simulation of hot forging processes have been observed. The existing hot forging technologies for the production of forged pieces of the automotive parts ‘Left shock absorber bracket’ and ‘Crank shaft’ have been analyzed. Metal flow imperfections which led to forging defects have identified and eliminated. Recommendations for the improvement of structural elements of die inserts by operations have developed. It has shown the concordance of simulation results in the QForm software with the results of industrial testing. The conditional economic effect by structural elements of die tooling has determined. It has established that the economic effect of die tooling design improvement in the QForm software by the only area for savings – reduction of expenses for dies refinement is up to 78% of total tool refinement cost or 40% of die tooling production cost in the context of hot forging of the ‘Crank shaft’ forged pieces.
