Investigation of backward-and-forward extrusion of tumblers with a co-bottom part.

Part 25. Experimental verification of theoretical formulas during traditional free spinning process with hardening (ending)

The cold free traditional free spinning process of tumblers with a co-bottom part from a hardening material is considered. The methods of performing specific calculations of the deforming force for various geometric parameters of extrusion, both for free and constrained spinning processes, are demonstrated in detail. A comparison with experimental data obtained during the spinning of aluminum alloy AD1 and brass L63 shows the high accuracy of the derived calculation formulas.
Keywords: die forging; tumblers with the co-bottom part; backward-and-forward extrusion; stress; deformation.

Calculation of the optimal cutting speed with tools made of hard alloys corresponding to the optimal temperature

The article is devoted to the issues of methodology for determining the operating parameters of metal cutting. It examines the thermally stressed state in the chip formation zone when cutting metals, as well as the calculation of the optimal cutting speed with tools made of hard alloys corresponding to the optimal temperature. The article presents the calculation results based on the derived formula for the optimal cutting speed of steels and alloys, which are compared with data taken from the works of other authors.
Keywords: processing parameters; cutting tool; cutting process; cutting speed; temperature; similarity method.

Application of the scheme of cylinder upsetting under stick conditions for analysis of the behavior of a defect in the manufacture of hardware

An assumption is made about the possibility of using the scheme of cylinder upsetting to analyze the process of upsetting the head of a hardware product. The object of such an analysis is the behavior of a defect in the form of a longitudinal crack on the workpiece surface. A diagram of a possible deformed state in the presence of such a defect is presented. The problem is formulated and solved by the finite element method using the ABAQUS software module. The distribution of strains and stresses in the vicinity of the defect after the billet upset is displayed. It is concluded that the defect should open as the deformation progresses. An exception is the metal zone near the contact surface.
Keywords: plastic deformation; upset operation; mathematical modeling; finite element method.

Features of modeling steel pressure treatment processes taking into account the structural and phase composition

A scientific approach is proposed for studying multiphase steels under thermal deformation impact, consisting of two stages. First, the phase composition is calculated using the JMatPro software, and then the thermal deformation impact is physically modeled on the Gleeble 3800 complex. To confirm the reliability of the developed approach, studies were conducted on 09G2S steel.
Keywords: multiphase steel; metal pressure treatment; thermokinetic calculation; physical modeling.

Influence of boric acid content on the phase composition of calcium-magnesium silicates based on carbonized rice husks

To intensify sintering of components in solid-phase synthesis of calcium magnesium silicates, fusible agents, in particular, boric acid, are often used. Optimization of the fusible agents’ content allows to provide maximum yield of the target product, as they reduce the melt viscosity and accelerate diffusion processes during sintering of components. The authors stated that with the increase of boric acid content from 3 to 5 %, silicon dioxide of carbonized rice husk is almost fully consumed in the solid-phase reaction with dolomite, and recrystallization of akermanite into diopside takes place. Regardless of the concentration of boric acid, a higher yield of diopside is achieved with an excess of dolomite in the charge, due to its decomposition, resulting in a loss of mass up to 27 % caused by the carbon dioxide release. To ensure maximum diopside concentration (up to 95 %) in the final product, it is recommended to use the content of boric acid of 5 %.

The influence of the orientation of 3D printing specimens produced by the material extrusion on the mechanical properties of PLA plastics

The paper describes a compression test of plastic plastic samples made using 3D printing technology by extrusion of materials. 3D printing of samples was performed with different orientations on the construction platform in order to identify the influence of orientation during construction on the mechanical properties of the samples. Samples with modified geometry are also used to test the effect of the additional orientation on the construction platform. From the data obtained, test graphs and a graph are constructed showing the dependence of the modulus of elasticity on the orientation of the samples on the construction platform.
Keywords: 3D printing; material extrusion; additive manufacturing; mechanical properties; modulus of elasticity; PLA plastic; anisotropy.

Study of mechanical properties of welded joints of polyethylene pipes for oil and gas industry at low temperatures

The possibility of using polymer pipes welded by butt welding with a heated tool in low temperature conditions is assessed. A welded joint is obtained experimentally, and ultrasonic testing was used to check its quality. Operational properties are tested for axial tension and static bending at temperatures from +20 to –60 °C. The results of the ultrasonic testing method show that the welded joint has no defects. The welded joint withstands destructive testing at low temperatures. It is recommended to use polyethylene pipes butt welded with a heated tool at low temperatures.
Keywords: polymers; polymer pipes; polymer welding; ultrasonic testing; tension testing; static bending testing.

Activation of rice husk ash by quaternary ammonium salts: the impact on the process of curing of epoxy resin

The present work addresses modification of the surface of agricultural by-produces – rice husk ash (RHA) – by the quaternary ammonium salt (QAS) alkylbenzyldimethylammonium chloride (CATAPAV 1618C.50) with the purpose of increase of interfacial interaction between a filler and epoxy polymer matrix, and there was investigated the impact of modification of the epoxy resin curing process. The conducted research confirms the adsorption of CATAPAV 1618C.50 on the surface of a filler and the presence of donor-acceptor interaction between the oxygen atoms of silicon dioxide, being the component of RHA, and the hydrogen atoms of alkylbenzyldimethylammonium chloride. The results of IR spectroscopy showed the increase of crosslinking degree of epoxy polymers that correlates with the augmentation of gel-fraction proved earlier. Inactivated RHA does not noticeably affect the thermal transitions of epoxy polymers, while RHA activated by CATAPAV 1618C.50 has an impact on formation of epoxy resin lattice pattern.
