Modelling of the Transformation of Coarse Grained Microstructure of a+b Titanium Alloys Along with FEM Simulation of Hot Forming Processes

It is well known that fine grained titanium alloys are characterized by very promising properties, but the process of obtaining such materials is normally quite costly and time consuming. To reduce the cost of manufacturing an attempt can be made to refine the initial coarse grained microstructure directly in the process of hot working. Various experiments conducted by the authors as well as work carried out by other researchers indicate that this is possible. The main complexity in the implementation of this idea into real technological processes is related to the high non-uniformity of the strains, strain rates and temperatures in the deformed workpiece and the sensitivity of microstructural transformation to these parameters. To approach this problem the capability of modelling the microstructure transformation along with the finite element (FEM) simulation of the deformation process is required. In this work a simple constitutive model coupled with the microstructure transformation is programmed into the FEM software, QForm, and used to investigate the perspectives of hot forging of the coarse grained two-phase titanium alloy.

Simulation of thermal processes during metal forming with using of QForm software by finite volume method

The heat transfer process is modeling using the QForm software by a finite volume method. The finite volume mesh is based on a finite element mesh used for the deformation problem solving by the Voronoi Cell finite element formulation. Allowing the resolving equation system is based on a heat balance into each finite volume. It has shown clearly that the proposed method allows obtaining more stable calculation results for temperature fields compared with the finite elements method.

Analysis of the possibility of a non-discharge drum forgings during hot bulk forming from alloy AD33

Computer analysis of the unfilled zones of the die due to pressed gas are shown in the article. Based on the information about dynamic surface filling of the die was detected the character of pressure increasing and impact on the metal flow. The simulation was performed using QForm software 5 and 7 versions for hydraulic press forging of the AD33 aluminium cylinder. It was determined that the gas pressure in the closed zones of the die can prevent of the filling.

Simulation of extrusion of aluminum profiles in the new version of the program QForm Extrusion VX: joint deformation task

The paper presents a review of the new version of QForm Extrusion VX software with an emphasis on the importance of coupled mechanical simulation for profile extrusion processes. The simulation is based on a Lagrange-Euler approach where elastic-plastic deformation of the die influences the material flow and vice versa. New features of the software such as the ability to apply User Defined Functions (UDF), transversal and longitudinal welding seams position prediction and a new modern interface are considered in the paper.
